SSI or Supplemental Security Income is a disability benefit based on need
SSI is a monthly disability benefit payment made to people based on need of the applicant. SSI benefits are provided to children and individuals with disabilities or older adults with little to no income or resources.
Who can get SSI:
Adults and children may be eligible to receive SSI if they have less than $1971 of monthly income or less, and little to no assets (vehicles and money in bank accounts for individuals no more than $2000, couples no more than $3000)* and a disability, blindness, or are over age 65.
*If you are a parent applying for a child, these numbers increase slightly.
